Remember: „Homeopathy: A View from the Outside“. James Ladd Bauer, M.D. (2005, Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine)

Thanks a lot to Jürgen Hofäcker for the following reading tip, published five years ago in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine (Volume 11, Number 1, 2005, pp. 1–3):

Homeopathy: A View from the Outside

JAMES LADD BAUER, M.D.

„What is homeopathy? My own encounters with it over the years have been enigmatic and contradictory. Just when I’ve decided once again that it is merely an elaborate placebo administration ritual after yet another failed experience with constitutional treatment, a patient - or, worse yet, a respected colleague - will report some inexplicable and dramatic positive result that they “know” can only be explained by a particular active homeopathic remedy. And then there were those personal episodes with an acute remedy that, for no reason apparent to science, has hauled me back from beyond the point of no return with traveler’s sickness. Is homeopathy a science for which the explanation has not been discovered? A kind of modern magic? An obsession for the delusional? …

It is possible that allopaths will sheepishly have to admit someday that there has always been a real and effective process behind homeopathic remedies, which today is not understood. Homeopaths might also discover (and be able to bear the news as more selfless scientists) that specific remedies have nothing to do with the positive results found in their process - and go on to allow homeopathy to evolve into something beyond what it is now. All could benefit from learning what homeopathy has to demonstrate about the uses of time and attention in restoring human balance, both in the healer and the patient.“x
