Summary
Pseudo-machines play a not to underestimating role in many areas of (complementaryor alternative-) medicine and psychology (mainly diagnostics and therapy) but also in daily technology. "Pseudo-machines" are defined as technical gadgets and/or therewith related technical manuals of which it is assumed that they operate in an objective purely physical way. A closer consideration, however, reveals that pseudo-machines refer to psycho-physical systems and contain hidden subjective, psychological components. With some pseudo-machines it is possible to separate in well-defined way the physical and psychologically part of it's effect. They are called "classical pseudo-machines". With "non-classical pseudo-machines" such a separation in not possible. They are examples for non-separable or entangled psycho-physical systems. For both kinds of pseudo-machines examples are given. They obey certain natural laws which influence both function and efficiency of the machine which, however, are mainly unknown to users and investigators. Typical displacement- and decline-effects can be found which limit the repeatability of the results. The particularities which emerge in testing pseudo-machines by means of double-blind studies are discussed. On the other hand, mainly non-classical pseudo-machines provide a lot of interesting possibilities for therapy and diagnostics which are not given with conventional machines.
